Senior Ruby on Rails Software Engineer & Manager

Wall-to-Wall Studios (W|W) is looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails software engineer / web developer to fill an immediate position in the Pittsburgh office. This individual should possess expertise with Rails and experience leading a development team. Among the wide gamut of web-based projects on our docket, we also maintain a CMS built in-house and tailored to our clients' needs.  Our technology stack includes MySQL, Git, jQuery, OS X, Linux, Ruby, Rails and AWS / EC2 / Puppet. This is a position in which self-starters and people passionate about the Web will thrive.

Founded in 1992, we are a full-service agency headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a second office in Honolulu, Hawaii. Our work spans many verticals, and we like it that way. Responsibilities:

• Develop high-quality Web applications while improving and maintaining an existing MVC code base in Ruby on Rails

• Develop high-quality Web software in a collaborative environment with a team of talented designers

• Lead the development team, guiding process, protocol and innovation

The ideal candidate will:

• Be well-versed in object-oriented programming and have intermediate- to expert-level skills in Ruby

• Not be afraid to write SQL queries

• Care about building well-designed, user-centric software

• Excel in an open, fast-paced work environment

• Loves to write tests to maintain a codebase while working with a development 

• Have experience creating applications in Ruby and want to learn

• Have a GitHub account for us to review (please put the link in your resume)

• Keep themselves up to date on the newest trends, tools, and languages

• Understands the value of open source software and not afraid to contribute

• Have a grasp on front-end coding trends as we are aggressively growing our emphasis on support for mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) and deploying Responsive Design solutions for virtually all projects.

• Be a strong communicator with demonstrated leadership skills

Experience in the following a plus:

• Ruby on Rails

• Sass and CoffeeScript

• Mastery of a Javascript framework (jQuery, Backbone, Ember, etc.)

• MySQL

• Apache, Nginx

• Git, Github

• Linux system administration

• Understand the necessity to write good tests 

• Front-end development trends, including responsive design
